Actress Jennie Garth of TV’s “90210″ joined Trident, Smiles Across America and students of a New York City elementary school to bring attention to the importance of oral health care starting this holiday season.

Cadbury sugarless Trident launched a three-year, $1.5 million-dollar commitment yesterday to Oral Health America’s Smiles Across America (SAA) program at PS42, a school now offering SAA programs. SAA is a signature program of Oral Health America, a non-profit advocacy organization devoted to improving oral health among millions of under privileged, uninsured and underinsured children in America by increasing access to care through school-based oral health services and education. Trident’s support represents the first multi-year commitment and the first donation of more than $1 million for SAA, which was formed in 2004.

A mother of three, Garth teamed up with Trident to help raise awareness for oral disease prevention. At the school, she led proper oral hygiene demonstrations—from brushing to flossing—to 30 students.

Through the partnership, Trident and SAA will more than double the number of children cared for by SAA professional healthcare partners and expand SAA to additional cities around the country. Each year, more than 51 million school hours are lost as a result of problems related to tooth decay, the most common, chronic childhood disease in America.
